Coral Bleaching: Mass-bleaching of Coral Reefs in French Polynesia

In February 1994, mass bleaching began to affect thousands of square kilometers of coral reefs in the central and western Pacific. Reef building corals habour photosynthetic dinoflagellate algae within the cells of their endodermal tissues.
